Now you may have seen these masks all over Instagram and I was totally intrigued by them. I was lucky enough to be sent one of these beauties to try for myself and really see if they live up to their expectations.  I have not been paid to do this review and all views remain my own.

I thought I would do this review because I've never experienced a eye mask quite like it. When I first read on the packaging that the face mask was self-heating I didn't quite believe it because I've never come across anything like this before. But much to my surprise, after taking it out the packaging, laying back and waiting for the magic to happen, this mask actually started to self heat. Now at this point I wasn't sure how hot this mask would get and particularly by the eye area, however, this mask gave off the perfect amount of heat, well the feeling was more like a steam sensation. If you've ever held your head over a bowl of hot water to open your pores, it was a similar sort of sensation but less intense. It was actually really enjoyable and relaxing.

Before using, I wasn't sure on what day to use it but having two kids, every day seemed like a great day (ha!).  The mask self-heated for approximately 15 minutes which was a great amount of time, specially if you need a quick relaxation before bed and then settling down to sleep. After using the mask, I did feel relaxed but I do believe that sitting down, having time to myself with the added sensation of darkness and a relaxing mist of heat, all in conjunction made the experience. After using this mask, I also noticed that my under eyes seemed more 'awake' and I do honestly believe this is down to the heat as I do have the same experience as when I use the hot water pamper session.

If you've never experienced this new type of eye mask then I would totally recommend it, it made it an easier and less messy experience than using a bowel of hot water and gave me the same results.

Thank you so much for reading! Leave a comment below your best way to relax after a stressful day. Also if you've experienced this eye mask yourself?

Want Lighter Hair This Summer Without The Damage?

The months leading up to summer I always go back and forth between changing my hair from a darker colour to light. As I'm quite a spontaneous person, I always think about wanting my hair lighter and will obsess about it until I have to head out to the store to dye my hair the very next day. The only thing that stops my thought process is the amount of damage hair dying can lead to. After all, if my hair colour is something I constantly think of changing then I definitely need something to help minimise the damage instead of having to cut off inches of my hair a few days later.

I was lucky enough to be sent the JPLEX Hair Colour Technology products which is fab as this is a product i have been seeing recently in my local Superdrug.  Although this product was sent to me, all views remain my own and I have not been sponsored to do this review.

I have been testing this product range for a month now to experience the benefits of the product. I normally go for 1 shade lighter in the summer ( I haven't got the confidence to go all blonde!) But I was pleasantly surprised by this range for even darker hair.  The process has three simple stages which you apply to your hair during the transition.   The range states to comply with the following;

Salon quality
Professionally formulated affordable at home treatment

Increases strength
Intensely nourishes hair while maximising the strength by up to x3

Increases shine
Add shine by encasing the hair shaft and sealing the cuticle

Added elasticity
Increases hairs elasticity enabling more stretch during the bleaching process, reducing breakages

Damage repair
Deep conditioning, to repair broken and damaged hair

Sounds perfect right?

Step 1

Bond Builder.  You receive the two 7.5 ml Jplex Bond builders which are perfect because you can keep and use the other Jplex builder on your second attempt of colouring in the future.  These beauties are added into the Bblonde Highlighting or colourant kits.

Step 2

The Bond Maintainer. This treatment mask should be applied from root to tip, apply more if you have thicker hair, and it should be left for around 10 minutes and simply rinse off. I used this treatment two different ways to see if I saw any difference in my hair. First round was to apply from roots to tips before shampoo and conditioner, using this as a treatment mask before the shampoo dry's my hair out. Second round, I applied this treatment for 10 minutes, but applied after my shampoo and conditioner.  I have to say I didn't see much difference between using it either before or after I shampoo but I did however get the same results. My hair with using just this treatment was soft and I actually noticed a decrease in my hair fall after I brushed it. After having my second child, I suffered from quite significant hair fall which was upsetting so it's quite good to have found something other than taking supplements to help with the problem.  I have taken a picture of what the treatment looks like below and as you can see, it's quite thick in consistency which is what i personally look for in a hair mask.

My hair, being quite thick and curly, it became so much more easier to manage after shampoo. My hair type is dry and with every shampoo, my scalp tends to feel quite dehydrated. After using this twice a week for a month, i noticed that my scalp felt nourished, which i didn't think i would have in a short amount of time.

Step 3.

Hair Perfector. This after care treatment states to ' enhance the condition of the hair during styling'. After using this product for a month, I instantly fell in love. If you the kind of person who needs to apply treatments such as styling products or leave in conditioners then this product is like a two in one. With it's easy application, I was able to use a small amount on towel dried hair to achieve my desired result. The best thing about this is that you do not have to rinse this product off and it does all the work for you. I can honestly say that after using these products my hair has never felt better. With two children, it's quite hard for me to visit the salon regularly and plus I don't have that kind of money to spend all the time. This system is definitely worth checking out because my dry, thick, dehydrated hair has now become something that I am now able to invest time in because I love the results it has given me.

Thank you for reading, Have you heard of this system before or even tried it out for yourself? I'd love to know your thoughts!

Breaking The Bank For Lilly Lashes? Are They Worth The Price Tag?

I've had such great engagement on my Instagram since posting a picture of me wearing these amazing lashes. Until recently, I never used to be the one for wearing lashes, typically because I wasn't the best at applying them to myself, but somehow I could get them right on others!  After some time thinking, and screaming "surely I can't be the only person?" I was finally able to learn the technique that worked for me. And that's the thing about techniques, is that you learn it over time, some find it quicker than others but it's honestly just practice and there's no real time limit to it. That's also the thing I love with makeup, you learn and find ways to make different techniques work for you.

After noticing that lashes completely changed my makeup game, making my eyes look more awake and really defining the shadows used, I started to look for  lashes that were natural and easy to wear. Social media definitely has a huge influence in my shopping basket. If your like me, you see someone wearing amazing lashes and you go to buy them because you want the same amazing look right? But then you get hit with the price tag. I know there are quite a few great brands for eyelashes on the market but after seeing so many people rave about Lilly Lashes and having the battle whether to buy them or not, i'm so glad I did. I am in no way sponsored by Lilly Lashes and all thoughts remain my own.

Spending £20 on a pair of lashes really did make me rethink about buying another pair from this brand because in all fairness, they are not cheap. However, the quality totally won me over. The quality of these lashes do reflect the price tag and they can be re-used up to 10-12 times if taken care of correctly. I brought the pair 'Goddess' which are a natural lash.  The brand states 'the Goddess Luxury Mink Lashes accentuate all eye shapes creating a whimsically wispie finish'. I didn't need any more convincing after this.

Although it states a natural finish, I do think that these lashes can be dramatic too, dependant upon the colour of the shadows you use. To demonstrate, I have uploaded the picture above of a smokey eye look with the lashes, although they are natural, they definitely make a statement which is what I really love about this look. They are very soft so my top tip is to be careful and take care of them because they are not cheap and if taken care of, you will definitely get your value for money.

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog post!
I upload daily swatches and pictures using my favourite products on Instagram so if you have it too, let's share the love! My Instagram :)

I'd also love to hear about if you have used these lashes and your favourite ones? Or if you use lashes in general and your favourite brand!

With a lot of people starting their university courses this upcoming September/October, I thought it would be helpful to talk about my university experience with some honest thoughts because hey, it's not for everyone and you will either enjoy it or not.

So I always kind of knew I wanted to go to university, I was the first person to go to University and I initially wanted to become a nurse. This decision was something I knew I would enjoy because I love helping others, however it wasn't my first option as I was back and forth between nursing and makeup.  One advice I would give is that it's okay for you not to know what you want to do, I changed my career path and decided in my last year of University. It's not too late to change your mind as the world is your ouster.  So back to my sixth form years, once I had an idea of the direction I wanted to go into to begin with, I applied to a few Universities within my city. I looked online at the start of my sixth form years to have a look at the grades I needed to get to be accepted and the subjects they needed me to have. This helped dramatically as it helped prepare me mentally with the type of work I wanted to pursue.

Before starting my course I looked into face book groups, forums, to try and find people who were starting the same course as me as I suffered with social anxiety, so this really helped! If there is one piece of advice to tell you, it would be to make friends before you go because it makes the first day a hell of a lot easier and remember, everyone is in the same boat as you. Everyone has been there and if you too struggle with panic attacks, then I understand, so tag along with a buddy, you never know, they might be in the same position as you and feel relieved.

Before starting the course, take a look at the course structure, does it involves practical or/and theory? Then be honest with yourself, think about how you learn best because this will definitely help your enjoyment of the course. I knew that my course was 50% theory and 50% practical which was great because I could adapt what I had learnt in the classroom to my placements.

Before starting my course there was the option to live in halls or studying whilst living at home. I stayed at home because living expenses on the bursary would be a struggle for me personally and my university was pretty close which was great and saved me a lot of money. However, I found that my social experience with university was dreadful and found that living at home and suffering with serious anxiousness anyway made it harder for me to tag along to events compared to people who were already living together. BUT! If I could change my social experiences I would definitely throw myself in at the deep end and tag along with the friends on my course and get involved more because hey, life is too short right?

Now on to the academic side. Find out how academic the course is, talk to other people who have finished the course you are about to start, look on the course structure online. As I have found out, with my course in particular, it gets harder as the years progress and I studied for 3 years. Soon after starting, I found it even more difficult knowing I was about to bring a life into this world and even harder, studying at the same time! Lecturers recommend reading around the module you are taking and normally have a reading list. I recommend reading them, if not all then definitely a few because i found if i didn't have a degree in fast typing then i would definitely miss things out in note taking! When i mean fast, i mean that some lectures went so quick and they didn't want to stop at all because getting through pretty much a module in a 2 hour lecture was some hard work when you were busy trying to finish the sentence they were talking about 5 minutes ago.  I would definitely recommend printing out the lecture slides beforehand so you only have to write small notes if needed, would have saved me a lot of time and painful hands.

If you are like me and tend to leave things to the last minute then I would suggest writing a diary with set dates to tackle parts of the assignment one step at a time. Throughout the years of me studying I left quite a lot of my assignments to the last minute because I must admit, having to get up countless times throughout the night to look after my child and then proceed to be awake at 7 o'clock ready for a day of studying and 13 hour shifts was though on my mental health.  Don't stress yourself out and make it harder, by doing tasks that require your focus for some time and then having a rest, you not only will be putting more in depth material into your writing, you will also save a lot of your energy.

Also, don't forget, your lecturers are the best people to speak to if you don't understand a topic because they are the ones teaching you right? I had a personal tutor who was there for any support throughout my studies so find out the main people that you can contact because if the help is there, you might as well use it!

Lastly, if you do enjoy your course then great! But if you find your mental health is being affected then it's never too late to change your mind on what you want to do. I got my qualification but decided in the last year that my mental health was far more important. Put yourself first because it was the best thing i ever did. Explore your own mind because life is far too short to do anything we do not enjoy.

Thank you for reading and I hope this has helped you in some way! Good luck too with your studies!

I needed to tell you all about these products because with the pigmentation these have, I couldn't not do a blog post about them! I have heard so many good things about this brand because they use all natural ingredients in their products and I wanted to compare the pigmentation of natural products compared to others on the market.  Throughout my search, I was lucky enough to be sent these products to review, however all views remain honest and are my own. I have included swatches of the products to show you just how great the pigmentation is so you can see why I love these so much.

As a makeup artist, I have many products in my kit that do not use natural ingredients yet I still use them because of the pigmentation. The great thing about the Ayuryedic Kajal is that they are handmade and are certified natural which means that they have been screened and certified safe to use. The brand uses organic ghee for soothing softness, camphor for natural cooling and cleansing and organised almond oil with natural pigments. I think it's great that you can find a brand that works with natural ingredients and do not test on animals, yet have great pigmentation! It's particularly important to know the ingredients list if you have sensitive skin or suffer from breakouts, knowing these are made naturally gave me confidence to begin with.

The two colours I have from this range are Cold Black and Rich Loam, these colour are quite bold and are perfect for multiple uses.  Starting from the left I have 'Pure Black' and on the right 'Rich Loam'. Both pigments can be used as either eye shadows or eyeliners which is great because it saves money on buying multiple products. Pure Black is well pigmented as shown and I can intensify the colour as needed for either a bold look or a more soft approach. Rich Loam is a bronze pigment with traces of gold glitter running throughout, it's beautiful. The pigments when applied are creamy and only needed one swatch to reveal it's true colour. The longevity of the products on the skin is quite interesting as i thought they wouldn't last as long because they included an oil, however much to my surprise these pigments last so long! I even took a swatch of me smudging the product once to show how well they keep on the skin. In honesty, I even found it quite hard to remove with just an ordinary facial wipe which shows how well this stays on the skin.

I had to result to using coconut oil to remove the product and as you can see, the original swatch was still in tact after smudging. These beauties retail for £13.90 which is great for a product you can use as an eyeliner and eye shadow! They contain no lead or parabens and use nourishing almond oil, honey and cocoa butter. Best yet, they have a range of colour to choose, these can easily be integrated into different looks for all seasons, specially the vibrant colours for festival looks. I have included a link below to where you can buy these products in the UK and a chance to check out their amazing colour range for this summer. Enjoy!

SoulTree

Thank you for reading and I hope this has inspired you to try natural products as this brand has proved that you can have pigmentation without harmful ingredients.

As I was going through my makeup storage, I noticed how much makeup has changed over the years and how trends come and go. I never used to be one for lip liner but now it's one of the biggest collections I have.  A lot of trends have come back and specially with influences from those famous on social media such as Kylie Jenner. Ever since using a lip liner, it has definitely improved the performance of an ordinary lipstick as when applied all over the lip, it makes my lipstick last so much longer, kind of like a primer for your lipstick! I also find that applying a lip liner not only makes my lips look slightly bigger, but I can also change and adapt the colours that I apply, such as applying a nude lip liner over a darker shade of lipstick to lift the colour slightly. Even better, applying a lip liner alone can also be perfectly eye catching and look just as good as a lipstick.

I have put together some swatches of my favourite lip liners that work well with a lot of shades and are also affordable. I absolutely love the NYX Cosmetics lip liners because they are long lasting and the pigmentation is amazing.  Below, starting from the left I have shades Beige, Mauve, Earth Tone and Auburn.  These lip liners are priced at the amazing rate of £3.00, so affordable.

NYX Cosmetics describes these as buttery. long- wearing which resists bleeding. The formula is quite buttery and are long-lasting however the darker shades do stain the lip, but nothing a little coconut oil and a lip exfoliating scrub can't work it's magic on.  The great thing about these lip liners is that they contain Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and Coconut Oil which are nourishing ingredients for the lips in general so it's great to have protection whilst rocking your favourite lip combo.

Thank you for reading and I hope this has given you some insight into these incredible products that definitely make your lipstick stand out.

I thought I would write a review of the Maccosmetics Cremesheen Glass as this has been my summer go to lip product. As the weather has headed towards the warmer side, keeping my makeup routine to a minimum is needed, one because it's too hot and two, even harder with two young children having my constant attention. If you are looking for something that is effortless but catches the eye, then keep on reading.

Maccosmetics states this Cremesheen Glass is 'A lip finish that fuses the creamy texture of a lipstick with the high shine of a gloss' and i can totally agree with that. I'm not normally a lip gloss kind of person but when i tried this formula i was converted. I normally tend to go with a matte lip on a daily basis but sometimes find something is missing. The description states it is non-sticky however, it is slightly tacky but not too intense where it feels uncomfortable like a normal lip gloss. The image below shows what the product looks like on it's own. It is super pigmented and can be worn on it's own or on top of a lipstick to give it that extra edge.

I have this beauty in the shade 'Over Indulgence' and found that it works perfect with the MAC lipstick 'Velvet Teddy'. The image below shows how great these two pair together.  As you can see, the glass just brings that something extra to the lipstick, adding shine which is great if you are looking for a small trick to adding volume and a plumpness look to the lips.  I have Velvet Teddy on it's own (right) and the added lip glass on the left.

The only downfall is that there is slight transfer, however this is to be expected with a gloss type product. Overall because of the finish it gives it is definitely worth it.  They retail for £18.00 GBP and available in a variety of colours. So if your looking for something different this summer or looking for a product that has the pigmentation of a lipstick but has a light weight formula, I would definitely recommend heading over to your local MAC counter and trying them out for yourself.
